Bulaklak ko (My Tulips)

My Tulips

Bulb and was uncertain,
I took my pot, soil and planted few bulbs;
But winter was so cold, that my plant couldn't grow.

As snow melted down, I cared back my pots;
Water it and let the bright shining light dropped on them.
And noticed I do, the bulbs came out and grow.

Broken chopsticks were their cane, as leaves are bigger than the trunk-stem they have;
Daily caress, humming and gardening, my daily love for each of them.

Months passed by and April-spring comes by
Lovely, before-unknown-bulb color, are now tulips in bloom
One orange tulip, and two yellow dears;
Daily you give me pleasant smile within

Indeed you are beauty, that nature of art shines.
Bloom and tell the people, in passion of caring you are an answer.
Amidst daily undertaking, there is grace and blessing.
Just keep faith, in that unknown bulb, is a beauty of nature to uncover.

Cavite Blessed Families with 2nd gen Conquer Mt. Pico de Loro

Cavite- Some Filipino blessed families based in Cavite organized a new thrill with a motive to refresh themselves in goal-hitting. They made a thrill in reaching a peak of a stiffy montain nearby their province, the peak of Mt. Pico de Loro in Cavite.

Bernard dela Cruz, Mario Guy, Raul Custodio and other blessed families gathered last April 26 and 27 with their grown-up blessed children and were so excited to the mountain climbing adventure. It was a family time, an ecological nurturing and at the same time a spiritual conquest of hitting a goal amidst risk, limitations, with their simple gadgets and gears.

Pico de Loro is just 664 meters above sea level. It it took us 3 hours to climb from jump off point. From the peak you can see the 360-degree view of Laguna and its lake, Corregidor and Batangas. The mountain was named after the peak of a bird called loro since it looks like a peak of the bird.

The team numbering 15 people were the following families with their 2nd gen:
Custodio Family-Raul, Yea Mi, Kookie, Hyo Gang; Guy Family-Mario, Cheong hyeon, Chosun; Amangan Family-Joel, Hyun jae, Mae jin; Pocong Family-George, Jones will; Dela Cruz Family-Bernard, Cathy and Eric Rodas. It was lead by Bernard and Mario who made the first pilot climb last April 7 this year.

The Trek
From Trece Martires at around 1:00PM, we ride in L300 van to DENR post and left the L300 van in DENR paying P30 for parking fee; walk in a highway for about 5 minutes to jump off point. The start trek upwards clicked at 2:30p.m. to Camp 1 for about 30 minutes. And take a rest in Camp 1 for 15 minutes then proceeded to Alibangbang Park for another 30 minutes; rest for another 15 minutes, then proceeded to camp site for 1 hour and thirty minutes walk. The climb here was quite difficult. The trail sometimes is steep. We arrive in at around 5:30p.m. and started to fix our tents and prepare for dinner. In the campsite you can see the peak and Batangas area, you are like in a balcony of the world.

When we arrived some other groups arrived earlier and settled there for the night. In my estimate there were around 20 tents around the area. I saw one tent on the peak but I heard they went down because of strong wind. We woke up at around 5:30 and prepare for breakfast. At around 800 a.m. we started the climb toward the peak. We arrived after around 20 minutes. In the peak you will enjoy the 360-degree view of Laguna, Batangas, Cavite and Corregidor.

You can see the rock standing tall on the opposite side of the main peak. It is another challege for a mountainer to climb. Last year a Fil-Am lady tried to climb the rock but failed she fell and landed on the bamboo trees down below. Her body was taken by the marine rescuer after 3 hours. Luckily she survived the fall.
Another point of interest going to Pico de Loro is the passing on and through a magnetic field. You can feel the strong pull even you if you are riding the car. The vehicle will slow down and we have to change to 3rd gear or 2nd gear though the land is almost flat.

And just nearby is a white sand beach located where mariners called it the Boracay of Cavite. (with special report and pictures of Bernard dela Cruz)

Kasingkasing sa dilang Binisaya (A Philippine dialect)

Kasingkasing (Heart)
Buhi ka man kung ang paghigugma alang lamang sa kaugalingon nimo,
Ayaw na lang ko pangulitawha maski nag lantawa,
kay daw patay ka sa imong pagka mang-inusara.
Gi hinganlan siyag Heart, nga daw lab-as nga pulang puso sa saging.
Wa man pa gani kami nagkahimamat,
among kasingkasing daw dili lang saging, kun dili barkada .

Maraming tao, may kanya-kanyang kulay, may kanya-kanyang kilatis.

Lyre kong pipit. Ituloy mo ang awitin mo.
KTE moy masigla, makulay at nakikita ng munduing madla.
Ngayon pa? Saan ka na? Umawit ka pipit na Lyra.

Earth day and Proper dominion of Creations

Earth-In traveling man can use the land, the sea or ocean, and the air and sky. In foods, the three areas are also full of resources to feed all people.

The other day, many called it Earth Day. There were those who clean the coastal areas. There were those who wear lettuce as their bikinis to campaign on being vegetarian ( and perhaps being less in moral as the way they campaign), and others just let the day pass. These can be done not only once a year as mere celebration of Earth day.

Last Saturday and Sunday, I tried to plant on the restored pots I picked from the thrown-outs. I tried arranging the veranda with pots although I cant call it landscaping. The rose is now budding for its spring flower-season as I planted that more than a year ago. The tulips are also budding with its flowers, the ornamentals are greening with their new leaves. The blue-berry too is sprouting with its new leaves. The two seedlings of pine trees given to us last autumn during the "matsuri" which I planted is slowly but growing. I found the weekend somehow accented with my being with the nature. How I wish to have a plot to plant for more and make a garden nearby.

Japan schools introduce pot-gardening to their students. Tomatoes, eggplant, okra and the like are planted on the pots and once well-taken with the proper fertile soil and watering, it is nice to see the potted plants naturally decored with their fruits-vegetables. As I only have few seeds of squash, I also tried planting last weekend on a big pot the squash seed not a pumpkin for halloween but the yellow vegetable good for the eyes. I hope it will survive.

I spent not a single cent on these plants, pots and soil. The water used to wash the rice before it is set for cooking is also one I used to water the plants. The empty egg shells are crushed and used to also be used as additional organic fertilizer. What else?

As having no property in this foreign land I have a limited way but I hope the Earth remains in everyone's heart to be a part of our natural responsibility for care, love, maintenance, development and survival.

Let us have planting as a hobby during weekend!

Happy Earth-saving!!!!

Reflecting on Patak-patak (drop-by-drop) in my PSU days

Nagano- As I was walking this morning, I was refreshing and reflecting on my college days when the UM National Director gave me the instruction to go back to school and finish my college or bachelor's degree last 1990.
The direction to go back to school was a mere direction. There was no financial or budget in it. I have to find ways on how to do it, where to stay and live, what to eat, and where to have money to pay the fees in the university. The only thing I have were the direction and the commitment to fulfill it. There is a big responsibility behind the direction too.
I applied as a student-laborer in one state university, Pangasinan State University and I was given a per hour wage of P3.85 peso. If I work for 3 hours in a day, I have just P11.55 peso that day.
During a start in Urdaneta, Pangasinan, I was a bit lucky at the start that a homemember offered me a space in their house for lodging. His parents were also good. However, I don't know his reason that after few weeks he just told me that he cannot afford anymore to allow me to stay in their house. I reflected if I have done anything wrong to them but none. Perhaps, my meal was costly for them. That pushed me to find a boarding house as my dormitory. A small bed space costs P80.00 per month that time. What I did was, I volunteered to clean the dormitory every vacant time. I have no other intention, but the landlord, noticed my religiosity in maintaining the cleanliness of the sorrounding and rooms. Because of that, he gave me free bed-space in that dormitory. That solved my shelter. My monthly wage as janitor is not enough for my foods and school needs. More solutions needed and prayers too.
Limitations did not bother me. I even organized the martial arts club to witness and educate students on DP and the tenets of martial arts inside the university. We have our 2 times a week training. And I integrated the club to the P.E. class during the last period in the afternoon by talking to the P.E. Instructor, Madame Lydia. She was a great instructor and very dynamic too. She asked me to demonstrate my martial arts lesson in her class. She said it was applicable for dual sports and is acceptable. After such, she has no second thought but give to me the responsibility of handling the P.E class under her supervision. She was always around during the class though even helping in checking the stances of the P.E. students. I have no salary for that. Mine was to open an avenue to witness to students and lecture them.
I was recalling on all these experiences this morning as I was walking to the school office in applying a new teaching job.
During my vacant time in college, I reported to Madame Lydia the attendance sheet of the P.E. class and she offered me always a time for sharing. In here, she knew my status as a missionary-on-leave due to schooling without any financial support.
And I was teary to remember the days when I was asked by the College Dean to bring something to the faculty room. At that time as I was inside the faculty room, I saw and caught Madame Lydia passing an empty chalk box to her fellow faculty members. I was a bit naive to know what it was. But as I was passing by near a table of a professor, I heard Madame Lydia approaching every teacher with her arms extended holding the empty chalk box soliciting. She said, "Patak-patak. Any amount for Allan's tuition fee". When I heard that, I felt not embarassed but noticed my feet moving faster to get out from the faculty room asap. I noticed my cheeks getting wet. I dont know what to do that time. It was so moving for me to find a person whom you are not related even in religion or church life to help a nobody like me .
Years past. I graduated. I was teaching then. The last time I met Madame Lydia was when I was crossing a street. A bus passed by and a woman-passenger was shouting at her window my name and waving her hands out. I noticed it was Madame Lydia in the bus passing San Fernando, La Union. She gave a flying kiss and waved til I cant see anymore the bus. I was jumping and waving in reply to her.
Memories. Times. History!

Hanami-kai

It was Flores de Mayo during my childhood days when I was exposed to flower-related activities in our parish thru our nearby the chapel. Baguio has the Penagbenga, a flower festival and parade where displays of flowers and floats are cheerished by many especially the tourists.

In Nagano, they have the hanami-kai (seeing flower festival), a gathering organized by respective groups to have their outdoor picnics to enjoy seeing the cherry blossoms or sakura and other flowers around at the same time enjoy their food and drinks. It may be a social if not a cultural tradition of the Japanese during this spring season of their beautiful sakura and various hana (flower) to give a chance to these lovely flowers. Eventually, their drinking session is allowable by the government and the police while they are in a government park or places where sakura trees are in full bloom that day in a year.
My school administration announced yesterday the being prepared hanami-kai of the administration department. So far, in my three years in this institution, it is only now that I heard about their organizing of a hanami-kai. There were boo-nin kai before, but now, it is the hanami-kai.

The sub-group of Fil-Jap community here in Nagano shi is also organizing a hanami-kai next weekend. It can be a social time to meet once again the Filipino families in the city connected to our group perhaps.

Thanks to the flowers, the sakura, for you give us a chance to socialize with you and to our dear colleagues in the kaissha and our organization as well. This could be the essence of 3rd blessing of having proper dominion of the creations, the plants, the animals, the climate and environment as well.

May it be done according to His will!

Spring and flowers

Nagano- Today I tried to take a little time to roam and take a few shots on the blooming sakura, tulips, roses and other flowers around.

Although it was windy and cold outside, the flowers are attractive and strong to attract you. You can look at these flowers, and even talk to them. Their colors perphaps are their personality to treat you. Their fumes maybe a rare nature of each of them.

But trees and its flowers are also strong to attract you. In Japan, the cheery blossoms are just so culturally admired even by non-Japanese.

There are trees too whose big white flowers are great. I dont know its name. It looks like the "katuday" in the Philippines.

Roses here have no fumes but are so nice. Carnation too and lily are great.

This is the wonder of Spring here. Flowers, flowers and beauty. It is a season for your emotion to appreciate beauty. I hope to witness more on the ohanami festival next week.

Reflection: Changes

The stages of growth and development in The Principle is time or age-free. Whatever is your age, you will find changes and development not only in your body, your attitude, your spirit, name it and you can see changes.
I was looking on this tree where it has one trunk, from one place or location but the tree bares mutliple colors of its leaves except its bald branches.
One says, " you are a man of all seasons!". But there can be no many seasons in one time in one place.
I remember a farmer putting some silversheets below the apple tree on the ground. His purpose was to have the reflection of the sunlight to bounce back to the bottom of the apple fruits hanging on the tree. The sunlight will make the skin color of the fruit turns to red. No problem on the upper part fo the fruit as it is directly exposed to the sun. But the bottom part of the apple is not. So the reflection from the silversheets makes the bottom color of the apple turn to red.
It may also be of same reason why the leaves of the tree are in multiple color. This is a presumption.
In man, there may be also similar situations where exposures direct or indirect make man differ from each other, even if they are from same place and culture.
Experiences, exposures, socialization make the siblings differ from each other too. Even if they have same DNA or from same parents and educational background, still they differ on their worldviews, beliefs and lifestyles.
Even churchgoers of same religion, differ. Even if they believe on same doctrine, they differ.
This is reality. The degree of their faith and attendance vary too. There are many factors involved too in here.
Personal choices also changes. My favorite color during my childhood was green. Now I like more the blue color. Changes in time.
Perhaps, the size of the family is one factor. The economic foundation too. The chemistry of the parents who raised their children, their age-range, their educational foundation as well are factors or variables that contribute to these variations.
The degree of attendance may vary too due to time. Perhaps health is a factor that one has to consider and prioritize relatively.
Changes in time.

Reflection: Snowfalls at Spring time too

Nagano- The equinox marking the Spring time was last March 20 this year. It was a holiday for Japan as it also marked the beginning of spring season. However, as my 2nd son attended a 2-day 2nd gen workshop last March 29 and 30, he witnessed a vast snowfall in their seminar site. Since that time until April 1 were snowfall days here during Spring season. That was a literal snowfall post winter or spring time in Nagano.

I asked my wife if that normally happens but she too was surprised about the snowfall during spring time.

Eventually, it was a surprising weekend to me as I also experienced a rare physical situation at the same time. I was expecting a happy weekend as my 2nd son was attending a 2nd gen 2-day seminar outside downtown area. But since Friday evening, I already suffered coughing. Saturday was a signalling day that I cant do my usual weekend chores.

Last Sunday was a real battle. I got clogged nose and have to breath thru my mouth. I got fever; colds was severe until evening time I started vomitting. I could not join my family in their dinner but my eldest son and the just-arrived 2nd son have to nurse me as I kept vomitting. In like manner my 3rd son was also coughing and started vomitting late night.

During Sunday evening, my breathing is getting difficult as less air comes in. If I breath thru my mouth, I have to make sure my mouth is free. But if I vommit, that makes it more difficult. I wanted to lay down as I feel weak and weaker every hour. But if I lay down, the more it is difficult for me to take air. My mouth-breathing whispers louder and louder as my chest feels more pains. If I cough, my stomach gets more pain too.

By instinct I found myself looking for a body position and angle where I can breath comfortably. It was difficult if I lay down, if I stand, or sit down straight. I found it quite comfortable to get air in breathing if I bend my head and upper body down. I tried that position for an hour or two. But as I feel weak and weaker, and sleepy as well, I stumbled down several times from that bending position. I closed my eyes in that position with upper body and head bent. I have to sleep in that position!?! And I couldn't sleep the whole night. I preferred to take air in that bending position than sleeping.

At midnight, I saw my 3rd son vommit. I have to stand with head bend and wake up my wife to help and nurse my 3rd son. It was only that time I heard my wife telling me to go to hospital in the morning.

Monday morning, I was already on with my school suit thinking that my wife will help me go to hospital first and if the doctor will allow me to go to work, then I would be ready. Six am passed, 7 am, 8 am and my wife was not ready. At 8: 30 I asked her if she can bring me to the hospital and she replied that my eldest son knows where the hospital and can bring me there. Hearing that, I cried a lot telling my wife that she doesn't know how to love me, and I asked my son to bring me to the hospital. We walked to the hospital with my 3rd son who was also sick til now. While walking I heard my breathing getting louder as it whispers loud sound. Every step as I walked, I got less air. I was thinking to collapse along the street.

When we arrived at the hospital information, I spoke in English, show my medical insurance card and nobody understand me. I asked my eldest son to translate for me. We were told to wait til my name would be called. As I heard my name called, I raised my hand and a nurse came to get my body temperature. My 3rd son's name followed.

While waiting at the out-patient lobby, my son started vomiting again. Good I got some plastic in my pocket. My 3rd son's name was first called at the pedia. But as he kept vomiting, a nurse has to attend to her more than his pediatrician.

When my name was called, I saw the eyes of the doctor bothered as how I look. She put on her stethoscope on my chest while I can hear my breathing sounds. Without any further ado, the doctor told a nurse in nihonggo and the nurse brought me to another room, perhaps a ward room with a medical laboratory facilities adjacent to it. The nurse took a blood sample from my right inner elbow while another nurse took a sample from my nostril. A third nurse injected some medicine at my right shoulder. I got two strikes in a minute. I noticed that time that a nurse was also accompanying my 3rd son to the same room. He was given a nebular treatment. As my translator was with us that time, the nurse asked my eldest to hold the nebular hose keep to my sick son's nose. My eldest son was wearing a medical mask like us.

In like manner, a quite different nebulizer was prepared by my nurse. She used different nebule and added other chemical from a large vial. Me and my son were having nebulizer treatment almost at the same time. I noticed somehow, that my nostrils are getting open. Blocking mucos might have melted to roll the red carpet for my needed fresh air.

After the nebular treatment, I thought I was done. But the nurse brought me to a bed. My translator was with my 3rd son that time. So I just tried to take a little rest as how I understand the message from my nurse. After a couple of minutes, my nurse came back with a dextrose, a needle and a 250 ml oxygen. She spoke in nihonggo and although I didn't understand her words, I know her message that she would give my the 3rd strike of her two-inch needle. She hit my left arm. That was the most painful strike among the three. I suffered in an hour waiting as I look every drop from the 250 ml.

During lunch time, I heard that the laboratory test already arrived at the nurse desk. I heard "influenza jannai" "allergy janai" from the nurses talk.

After the last drop of the 250 ml, my nurse asked me to follow her. She said that there was no influenza nor allergy in me so I could be discharged that day. She brought me to the counter and I saw my 3 sons waiting for me. My eldest and translator listened from the nurse who explained about my medicines, and my son paid the bill with my medical insurance card. His mother left to my son some amount. After the nurse explained, my son told me about the medicine and told me that he finished paying the bill already and told me the nurse' direction for us to go home.

I thanked all the nurses around and the counter staff. We walked going home slowly.

When we arrived home, I need to cook for lunch for my kids. My three sons and I ate lunch together. My two daughters were at their day-care center and their mother reported at work.

After lunch, and after taking in the first of my 2-week medication, I could feel it is truly spring time. I got hope and little energy every hour.

Today, my eldest son joins the start and opening ceremony of his first year in junior high school class. I saw more hope from my translator-son and other children than my bitter-half , i mean better or should be better-half, this time.

But I dont want to carry "spiritual baggages" along the way. I rather put it to the concept that my wife is so pre-occupied and busy prioritizing the needs and requirements of the school needs of the only five children going to a new start of the school year.

FFWPU Visayas conducts 21-day Lecturers' Training

Cebu- From March 10 to 30, 2008 the 21-day FFWPU Visayas Lecturers' Training was organized in Cebu City and later at Bantayan, Visayas.

The first 11 days of training were held at the Culture of Heart Training Center, Cebu City and the remaining ten days were held in Bantayan Island, Cebu. There were six participants who started and finished the training. Each region of Visayas was represented, one from Western Visayas, one from Eastern Visayas and four from Central Visayas. This 21-day lecturers’ training was organized and facilitated by Engr. Rolando Basuil Jr., Executive Director for Visayas and Dr. Randy Ame, IW of Visayas. The training includes not only lecturing sessions but also a lot of readings of the Divine Principle and the Cheon Seong Gyeong, and a little bit of physical training and outdoor adventure.

For 21 days, the participants experienced so many things for the first time. They go through so many overcomings especially the tightness of their training schedules. After every model lecture has been presented, they will make their own lecture outline and present it afterwards. Long readings also follow in-between of their sessions. In Bantayan Island, where they continued the training, the intense of the training takes place. They experienced giving lectures to nobody but to the plants, trees and to the sea. And the most challenging for them is doing house-to-house lectures near the area for four days. At first they felt difficult but later on they enjoyed it and started to have more passion in giving lectures, especially when they feel the need of people who can give lectures, for most of the people they lectured were very innocent that others even don't know about Adam and Eve. This made the participants realized how important their training was. Each of them has their reflections and realizations of the training. “I had regretted the times when I didn’t respond and do my responsibilities”, Judith Artugue, one of the participants, shared in tears. As the 21-day lecturers’training closed, the new journey and challenge to the participants also started.
The training didn’t stop in that 21 days, but for forty days they will be in their field training. This will be the time when they are tasked to do lectures in each of their places. This will be the time also when they have to practice what they have learned. And after 40 days, they will meet again for evaluation. This will determine if they are qualified to become lecturers in Visayas.

The training didn’t focus only on becoming a good speaker but on how to become a true person. A true person who can transform and open the eternal life to the people by embodying the culture of heart, and living with their words. Through this, it is very possible that we can bring people back to God’s bosom. Hopefully, the 21-day lecturers’training can solve the problem on the lack of lecturer-educators in Visayas. A second batch training is now planned to be held most probably on May. Herewith are the names of the succesful trainees-participants:1. Judith Artugue (Eastern Visayas)2. Maricel Centina (Western Visayas)3. Noel Espina (Central Visayas)4. Romelyn Navarro (Central Visayas)5. Renato Taburada (Central Visayas)6. Erlet Tampepe (Central Visayas)
